Want to hold a Fairly Covered Party?
Fairly Covered was started in 2003 aiming to supply a high quality, value added, Fair Trade finished product from low capital production units e.g. ones which are owned and controlled by the producers themselves and remain within their communities. Aiming to buck the trend of urban drift. Working on a finished product which leaves the country (either India or Bangladesh) in its final packaged form is very challenging. The bedding all has to meet the quality requirements of factory production, cloth quality, seams, colour fast etc. Christine Gent who founded Fairly Covered sees quality as the most important areas (along with the product design) to keep customers and build the reputation of Fairly Covered.
Initially the bedding is being sold through the web www.fairlycovered.com, through Fair Trade fairs and and through home sales. In the first year Fair Trade shops (that are large enough) are being encouraged to sell them. Customers are asked to feed back any comments on the covers so that the quality can be improved. Many Fair Trade suppliers complain that they do not get the feedback necessary to develop their product. In some way the early customers are not only buying a duvet cover but also enabling the Fair Trade producers to develop their product so that it can complete on the main street market. Once and only when all quality issue are resolved Fairly Covered aims to venture into the mainstream in the UK and to other Fair Trade suppliers in Europe. In the mean time home sales or party selling may seem like a strange was to sell but the quality and quantity of customer feedback is brilliant. People come if they want to buy a duvet cover or learn more about Fair Trade. Fairly covered are looking for more people to hold more duvet evenings please contact sales@fairlycovered.com if you would like to know more.
